The diversity of child care programmes under different auspices and the extensive coverage are two striking features of the scene in Tamil Nadu. So much so, that practically every child between 0-6 years has access to some form of child care service. But the most important feature is that in most cases, the services are mainly planned for catering to children of low-income groups and since a majority of women in this group are working, the services provide support to them.
