Capacity building plays a predominant role in leading the community towards development by improving their lives and livelihoods. Through capacity development efforts, individuals, organisations and communities develop abilities to perform functions, build consensus, solve problems, and set and achieve objectives in a systematic manner to realise change. Useful experiences were gained in the project on ‘Strengthening Resilience of Tsunami-Affected Community’. The need to build the resilience of coastal communities emerged due to the indelible imprints left by the tsunami on human, financial, natural and physical assets both in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
